Andrea Young is a performer-composer working across instrumental, vocal and electroacoustic music. Her artistic practice centres on the voice as both an expressive instrument and a means of controlling and transforming sound through live electronics. Her compositional and pedagogical practices are closely intertwined, with experimentation in voice, sound and technology informing both her creative work and her teaching. She is currently Lecturer in Composition at Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland.

Her work has been commissioned by Canadian ensembles including Quatuor Bozzini, Paramirabo, Architek Percussion, No Hay Banda and Array Music. Her recordings and writings have been published by Love Records, Redshift Records and Leonardo Music Journal (MIT Press), among others.

Since relocating to New Zealand, Andrea has continued her international collaborations, including the duo Teo Dora An Drea with pianist-composer Teodora Stepančić, while developing new projects exploring taonga pūoro in relation to voice, electronics and sound.

Andrea studied at the University of Victoria and the Institute of Sonology in The Hague, and holds a DMA in Performer-Composer studies from the California Institute of the Arts.
