EXO//ENDO is not a band. It is a group of composer-performers that draw from diverse histories involving classical, avant-garde, punk, noise, industrial, progressive, krautrock and new music. The members synthesize their disparate backgrounds into something as unrecognizable as it is contemporary. With the assistance of an ever-growing body of composers, performers and collaborators, EXO//ENDO sets out to further break what has already been broken, and to work exclusively with what remains.
Teodora Stepancic (piano, keyboards, objects) and Andrea Young (voice, electronics, objects) are dedicated advocates of new experimental music, as performers, composers and concert organizers, working with both established and emerging composers. Our work together reveals a special nuance in each other’s performance, both contributing to an expansive notion of our instrumentation and compositional sense of “open musicality”.
S[ILK]S is Andrea Young and Jennifer Thiessen. Andrea Young is a performer-composer of instrumental and electroacoustic music, working specifically with acoustic, processed and resynthesized voice, as well as a sound-controlling voice enabled through feature extraction and live electronics. Jennifer Thiessen is a violist and viola d'amore player known for improvising and creating new works. She is also a singer-songwriter (aka Daily Alice) using voice, viola and electronics to create experimental songs, and a writer of poetic prose and music journalism.
With their combined backgrounds and musicalities, S[ILK]S aims to push the boundaries of song-making through the intertwining of composition with interpretation as well as vintage technology and digital processing.
